Social Psychology Open Rank Tenure-Track Position at the University of Michigan

The Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, invites applications for a faculty position (Open Rank) in Social Psychology. All substantive themes within the subdiscipline will be considered. The Social area seeks to maintain strengths across core themes (such as, but not limited to: emotion, culture, motivation, social cognition, interpersonal and intergroup relations) but recognizes social psychology as a hub-science making contributions to adjacent areas of academic inquiry and addressing real-world problems. Expertise, breadth, and innovation in methodological approaches will also be considered. This is a tenure-track university year appointment. The expected start date is August 25, 2025.

Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in psychology or related discipline by the time the position starts and must demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentorship, including courses that address core area needs. New faculty hired at the Assistant Professor level will be expected to establish an independent research program.

Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of current and future research plans, and up to three publications. In addition, please provide a statement of teaching philosophy and experience, with evidence of quality when available. Please include with your application a separate diversity statement that describes how your research, teaching, and/or service have or will contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion (https://diversity.umich.edu/) on the U-M campus.

To apply, submit materials by September 15 at the following site: http://apply.interfolio.com/147442. The application site allows candidates to request letters of recommendation directly from referees (also due by September 15). For inquiries about this position, please contact the search committee chair, Josh Ackerman (joshack@umich.edu).

Offers for this appointment are contingent on the successful completion of a background screening. The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Qualified women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply. The University is also supportive of the needs of dual-career couples.

Applicants are also encouraged to consider applying to the Collegiate Fellowship Program (due September 10) or the MPACT Program (open August 1) in the U-M College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, as appropriate.
